AHON ROVERS 22-005

Easing restrictions on worldwide health and safety protocols.  It is this time when all are slowly getting used to hopefully post-covid 19 pandemic while moving into what we now call "the new normal life after covid 19".........  Anakalang Hikers of Nature of Nagcarlan, Laguna or AHON, a local adventure group with the advocacy of conserving and preserving our natural resources for everyone's' health and fitness buckled-up and opted to partner with the Boy Scouts of the Philippines Rover Scouts in consonance with AHON's 10th year of active existence.

Recognized by its community and its local government unit, private and public learning institutions and organizations, Ahon wishes to become more of themselves in order to give more to others.  Learning new things, reaching out other horizons, exploring other perspective, gain knowledge and become more dynamic in turn to share them with their peers, to their community and dreaming of sharing creative undertakings to a much wider sphere.

It was on June 25-26, 2022 when 25 pioneer members of Ahon subjected themselves to a Rover Orientation Vigil and Investiture Ceremony (ROVIC) at Jaime B. Ching Camp Anibong, Pagsanjan, Laguna.  Sctr. Gerry Monteza, ALT, a member of the Laguna Council Executive Board and Lead Convenor of Ahon through the guidance of Laguna Council Scout Executive Sctr. Cecille Manicad sponsored the Rover Activity and requested fellow Laguna Training Team Members to the conduct of Rover activities.

Ahon's eagerness and dynamic participation in all activities made both Rover Leaders and facilitators exuberant, cheerfully delivering topics with then Ahon Rover Aspirants.

By dawn of June 26, 2022, ROVIC 22-005 was a straightforward success.

First ever face-to-face Laguna Council Scouting activity after the wrath of Covid 19, we still adhere to health standards as prescribed by the Philippine government.

Ahon wishes to thank everyone for a job very well accomplished. Salute to ROVIC 22-005 movers:

Liham Kahilingan sa Pamahalaang Bayan ng Nagcarlan

Enero 17, 2022

Kgg. Lourdes J. Arcasetas

Punumbayan

Pamahalaang Bayan ng Nagcarlan

Lalawigan ng Laguna

Sa aming pinakamamahal na Mayor Ody,

Mabuhay!!!!

Nagcarlan is still and continue to be classified as having Agricultural and Eco-Tourism potential. As it was prepared and written on a report made by the Technical Working Group and as presented by Envia Consultancy on two (2) occasions: Nov. 9, 2021 Initial Public consultation at Villa Elena, Nagcarlan and on January 12, 2022, Presentation of Nagcarlan CLUP via a Zoom meeting.

On the List of Key Biodiversity in Nagcarlan (Volume 3, Sectoral Analysis), there were few places included namely Yambo Lake, Mt. Banahaw, Mt. San Cristobal Protected Landscape, Bunga Falls, Lansay Hills, Sagilala Falls and Pulang Lupa.  We feel that it is best if we could include several significant places more.

As our group, AHON is noted and being recognized as explorers and showcasers of potential natural attractions within the vicinity of Nagcarlan, it is our humble obligation to present you beautiful landmarks as we found them very suitable to be included in the CLUP. We classified them into:

(1) Potential Eco-Tourism Landmarks that are very accessible to visit and that they only need so little effort to be introduced as attractive destinations. And

(2) Potential Adventure Sports Tourism Sites for the much adventurous type of tourists engaging in Hiking, Trekking, Trail Running and Orienteering, Mountain biking, Gravel Biking, Bikepacking and Bike Touring, Bouldering, Rappelling, Rock climbing or Camping. These are the following:

POTENTIAL ECO-TOURISM LANDMARKS

1.       Am-aw Falls – located in Brgy. Palayan and is situated on the far end of Am-aw Creek before joining Tipacan River.

2.       Talon Inlulupis – located in Brgy. Tipacan and is situated at the end of Biga River joining Tipacan River.

3.       Tipacan River – located in Brgy. Tipacan. Historically significant in the construction of St. Bartholomew Church dated as early as 1752.

4.       Maiit River – Located along Brgy. Maiit and used to be a popular swimming and picnic destination. Construction of a concrete bridge eased its previous local appeal and appreciation as well as its tourism utilization purpose though the place has not loss its natural beauty yet.

5.       Talon Itikan – located in Brgy, Talahib and its waters are tributaries of Alumbrado Creek.

6.       Mahangin Falls, Katmon Falls, Galyan Falls – all of which are closely located in Brgy. Lawaguin and are tributaries to Buenavista Creek.

7.       Lagulo Falls – situated at Brgy. Lagulo with its waters coming from “Tabuen” spring also within the area that eventually leads to Santa Cruz River

8.       Tulay San Diego (and Tulay San Rafael) – located at the boundaries of Brgy. Poblacion 2 & 3.  Historically momentous as that of NHI’s Underground Cemetery and the St. Bartholomew Church and should be given equal appreciation for their cultural importance.

9.       Talahibing River and Philpodeco Hydro Electric Power Plant – situated in Brgy. Palina and considered one of the oldest (and still operating) Hydro Electric Power Plant in the Philippines.

POTENTIAL ADVENTURE SPORTS TOURISM SITES

1.       Dalinse Ledges – located in Brgy. San Francisco an old river gorge being idle for the longest time but has potential flair for Adventure sports as Bouldering and Rappelling, Hiking and Orienteering.

2.       Kweba ng Tangab – located in Brgy. Sabang and a historical landmark being a former refuge to a Japanese straggler towards the end of World War II. Ideal for Mountain Trekking.

3.       Iloko and the Matagbak Trails – situated at Brgy. Sabang – Brgy Alumbrado – Brgy Talahib vicinities inside the Open Forest land area and are ideal venue for Trail Running, Mountain or Gravel biking and Adventure Hiking.

4.       Mt. Atimla – along Brgy. Sabang vicinity with trailheads at Brgy. Lawaguin and at Brgy Sabang Iloko trail. Mt. Atimla trail characteristics resembles the challenging paths of the Mt. San Cristobal Northern Trail.

5.       Mt. Nagcarlan – located in Brgy. Sabang (part) with jumpoff situated in Brgy. Wakat’s “Todas” trail. Most popularly known as Mt. Kalisungan by neighboring locals of Calauan. NAMRIA (National Mapping and Resource Information Authority) acknowledges it to be Mt. Nagcarlan.

6.       Nagcarlan Horseshoe – Located at Brgy. Lawaguin with a great viewpoint to Laguna Lake and its surrounding municipalities. It sits right at the foot of Mt. Atimla along the Nagcarlan-Calauan Road and an ideal pit stop or rest area for Bikers, Bike Tourers, Motorriders or plain travelers passing along the area.

Justifications:

AHON believes that the inclusion of mentioned landmarks and sites are beneficial for Nagcarlan for the following reasons:

1.       Beautiful Natural landmarks or sites are indeed be considered treasures of the area. They can bring numerous opportunities and perpetual benefits to the community

2.       Identifying and recognizing beautiful landmarks present in the locality transforms its people to value and respect the area, be proud and take care of it.

3.       Preserving natural beauty of the place helps in the conservation and raise people’s awareness to protect the area from neglect and wrongly human intervention.

4.       Conservation of our Natural Landmarks/Resources gives us as wealthy environment able to give us healthy lives

5.       It will help cultivate and showcases local cultural character and lifestyles and promote its distinct identity as benchmark of development.

6.       It gives its people confidence and opportunities to mingle and deal with visitors.

7.       Provide more job opportunities to its stakeholders and the community in general.

8.       Expedites infrastructural development of the area.

9.       Raise property valuation.

Also, on the List of Major Rivers and Creek in Nagcarlan, we feel that San Marcos Creek should be included as well, certainly for the following reasons:

1.       San Marcos Creek exists and obviously located at the heart of Nagcarlan.

2.       Including it in the list meaning giving importance and recognition in preserving its benefits and protecting it from faultily interventions

3.       The creek must be given due attention since the place is an area of serious sanitation concern

4.       Barangay concerned can strategize and implement sustainable programs for community awareness and oblige its people in proper caring and giving more importance to the area.

5.       Will further speed up mitigations needed to increase conservation efforts and intensify its management.

It is of AHON’s prayer that you consider our suggestions worthy to be included in the CLUP. As ever, our desire is always been for the good of our very own Nagcarlan.

Respectfully yours,
